If you have never visited Edinburgh before then try and make the effort as it really is a fascinating city, quite unique from any other city you may have visited. You can either pick one of the many Bus tours available or make your way around on foot as it is a compact city which can be covered easily by those who do not mind a few hills!
The Old Town of Edinburgh is absolutely delightful and a world heritage site. It spans back centuries, with historic buildings crammed in together in narrow streets and spooky underground vaults which are said to be haunted.
The New Town is the part of Edinburgh that was created when overcrowding got too much in the Old Town and you can find elegant townhouses and green areas where you can stroll and enjoy the city.
Then, of course, there is Edinburgh Castle which sits proudly on a rocky hill in the centre and which can be seen from much of the town. This is the venue for the famous Military Tattoo which takes place every August and which attracts visitors from all around the world.
While you are in Edinburgh, check out some of the local restaurants and cafes, where you can sample local delicacies such as shortbread, haggis and, of course, a dram of whisky.
